Grazia Toderi

Reflected in a mirror, the number 10 turns into 1001: in the starry background a small, mysterious pink object. These are the elements of the image taken from the video made by Grazia Toderi for the show Il fiore delle 1000 e una notte (The flower of a thousand and one nights), produced for the Venice Biennale. With this work the artist was among the winners of the Golden Lion in 1999.

GRAZIA TODERI is at the forefront of Italian video art. Since 1992 she has chosen video as her preferred tool for expression. What interests her about video is the simplicity and lightness of a medium that can be seen in homes all over the world. She often focuses on a single image, an action taking place slowly or repeated over time in front of a fixed camera. The changes are slow and the artist is able to transform a familiar place into a wonderland, creating infinitely light, mobile geographies. Toderi often also uses cinema and existing footage to achieve a coincidence between everyday life and fantasy. *She was born in 1963 in Padua, she lives and works in Milan.
