Born from the accidental dropping of two photographs: the departure of Apollo 11 and a woman holding a rifle, Jest brings together five generations of photographs from Ilaria Turba’s family photo archive spanning a period of time from 1870 to the present day.
Jest means “joke, prank” in English. The historical photographic originals are the starting point for a visual research that develops like a game – at times dizzying – of cross-references, repetitions, tricks, changes of context and transformations at the end of which the division between what is true and what is not no longer makes sense.
